Match Report

After flying high with a draw against Castaways last week we came crashing down to earth with this defeat against Karma A.
The opening match saw me pitted against Peter in very 4 closely contested sets. Peter won the first two sets with edges. I won the third and led 9-6 in the fourth. Peter won the next 5 points to secure the match.

In the second match, George Buck won the opening set against George Sanders, but then fell away badly losing the next three sets with an average of 5 points per set.

With Ronnie arriving, but not quite ready to start, I played Ben in the third match of the evening, winning comfortably in three straight sets.
Ronnie opened his campaign against Peter, losing 11-3 in the final set.

Only two singles' matches went the full distance, both involving Peter. This time beating George 11-1 in the final set. A successful but tricky night for Peter, playing 14 of a possible 15 ends.

The penultimate singles match of the night saw me lose to George S in 4 sets. George quickly raced into a 2-0 lead, but I responded by winning the third 11-5 and leading the fourth 9-6. A case of Déjà vu as I again failed to get over the winning line to take it to a deciding end.
With the match standing at 6-2 in Karma's favour and time running out, the final singles match saw Ronnie against Ben. With Ron leading 2-1 the fourth set went to deuce, with Ronnie saving 2 game points, he eventually came through 14-12. Phew. Had the match gone to 5 sets we would have had little choice but to concede the doubles.
And so to the doubles and the final match of the evening. Down 10-7 in the final set, all seemed lost, but we then won the last 5 points to seal an incredible win.

Yes we lost the match 6-4, but it was a case of damage limitation winning the last two matches. Karma close the gap on us by only 2 points in the battle against relegation.

One could argue, a moral victory for PRO.
