Week Commencing 10th November 2014

Premier Division - DRS Duncan Taylor        duncan.taylor@essexcc.gov.uk

8-1 seemed to be scoreline of choice this week in the top flight this week. First off the blocks were Rayleigh Mill with a win over Hullbridge C with a man of match performance from Steve Maltby and a good win for Andy Seaman over Steve Sawyer. It was also 8-1 win for Rawreth A over Castle Point, Scott Dowsett with the consolation win over Charles Sweeny.  Another 8-1 win went to Rawreth C over Warehouse A with some well contested matches on the night and rare hat-tricks for David Colwill and Ben Matthews with Kim Shead picking up Warehouse’s only win.  Thorpe bay B overcame Hadleigh Forum by the same scorecard with Richard Stubbington and Kieran Skeggs going unbeaten and Dave Bassett beating Gurj Bhambra.  Finally a game that didn’t finish 8-1 when the other Thorpe bay team, the A team beat Hullbridge B 6-3. Helped in the main by a John Monk Maximum and a brace from the returning Paul Whatton, the game included great wins for Maxine Abbott and Fred Dove over Paul Sayer    Duncan

Hadleigh Forum B got back to winning ways this week with a good 6-3 win over Canvey A. Mick Tappenden rediscovered his early form to take 3, supported by Dave Woolmer with 2, Ray Wilson putting up some resistance with 2 for the Islanders.  Lentern B are now in a strong 2nd position with a game in hand and only 2 points behind the leaders. For the second game running they scored a maximum 9-0 win, this time over Invicta A, with Gus Heath, John Lott and Steve Appleby doing the damage.  Customs A continued their winning streak, this time 5-4 against Lentern E. Roy Thomas with his usual 3 and Dave Morgan with 2 saw them home, although new signing Mike Worship with 2 for the visitors pushed them close.  Lentern C got back to winning ways with a 7-2 win over Warehouse B. Mike Grout  was unbeatable on the night and ably supported with 2 each by Les Tayler and Wayne Farmer, playing up. Jim Stait for the Warehouse team was the only one to put up resistance against the ‘funny rubber’ team as Berti called it, winning two.

Hockley A continued their good recent form with a close 5-4 win over Canvey B. Tim Pang and Tony Vassallo scoring two each for the Hockley team as did the consistent Peter Cray for Canvey. Hockley did it the hard way coming back from 4-0 down to take the last 5 sets.  Final game for this week saw a welcome 8-1 win for Rawreth E over Lentern D. Justin Jeffery and Chris Buer scored maximums with the consolation point coming from Dave Kirston against Steve Buer    Barrie

Rawreth F edged it in a close 5 - 4 ‘derby’ win away to Rawreth G, thanks to two wins each from Andy Nunn and Ken Field. The G team’s Andy Deadman was the pick of the home team, including capturing the prestigious scalp of Andy Nunn.  Castle Point B’s Tony Ayliffe, Martin Roberts and Keith Neville were all far too strong when visiting Warehouse D, winning 9 – 0.  A maximum from Castle Point C’s John Beddow proved decisive in a 5 – 4 home win over Warehouse C. Peter Maslanka won two for the visitors.  Hockley B continued their fine form with a 7 – 2 win away at RESSC. Young Matt Stringer was again their star winning all his games. He was well supported by two each from Dennis Squirrell and Paul Strutt. Ron Coutts won both the home side’s points.  There were maximums from both Keith Smart and Clive Beauchamps in their impressive 8 – 1 home win over RESSC. Ron Coutts single saved the visitor’s blushes    David

One outstanding match to report on firstly with Hockley E recording, what was their first win of the season 6-3 at Rawreth I. Ron Rogerson was their man of the match recording his first hat-trick in his first season in the Winter League, backed up by 2 wins for Graham Gregory and one for Brian Parker. Botond Mezo recorded a brace for Rawreth and Isaac Clifton one.  The rest of the week’s results were pretty one sided. Canvey D led the way with a 7-2 win at Warehouse E where Ray Baker picked up 3 wins and Simon Baker and Stuart Curham 2 each. Simon Lisner won both Warehouse’s points. Four of these matches went to 5 sets with Simon Lisner just missing out on a hat-trick losing 20-18 in the fifth to Ray Baker.  Hockley C went one better in their derby against the E team winning 8-1 and reclaiming their place at the top of the table. A straightforward win with 3 wins each for Matt Nariel and Stuart Adshead, 2 for Laurie Witte and Brian Parker picking up the consolation point for the E team. Match of the night however was a 4 set game with no deuces between Brian Parker and Stuart Adshead that lasted 45 minutes with some rallies exceeding 100 shots! Maybe we should check the expedite rule!!

Finally, Invicta B eased to a 9-0 win against Rawreth J Mike and Matt Keeble and John Golding recording their respective hat-tricks. Spare a thought for young Harry Small however, who went to 5 sets against Matt Keeble losing by the closest of margins 10-12 11-9 12-10 11-13 13-11 and just failing to record a consolation point for Rawreth    Paul
