It's great to see level of ping pong skills steadily rising across North East as well as seeing more people interested in learning this absolutely unique version of table tennis.

We had 16 players competing in Ping Pong Tournament this year. The day started with 45min warm up followed by group stage of the main event (4 groups of 4). Top 2 players from each group qualified to quarter finals while 3rd and 4th places formed Consolation Plate QFs. Andy Keith won the plate event for the 2nd time in the row with Chris Davenport coming second (that was Chris's first appearance in ping pong event), well done to both.

In the main event, previous years' finalists Umesh Samo Nakho and Dennis Oon were knocked out at QFs stage despite winning their groups earlier. Semi-finalists from previews years Charlie Matthew and Gregor Ksiazek managed to find their way to semis again along with two new players: Catherine Inverarity and Daniel Tibbetts. Daniel and Charlie progressed to the final where they gave us an absolutely amazing show, easily the best ping pong match in a short history of this event here in Aberdeen.

Sandpaper bats proved again to be an excellent equaliser, allowing players from lower divisions to compete and score great points against higher-ranked players. Big thanks to Alison Woods for her work at the top table and to our hosts Dave Curry & Chris Davenport. We're pleased we could come back to Woodbank to run our 2022 edition, many thanks to all who made it possible.
