The first week of the season a very busy start at John Hanson School, which produced some very good matches. With every game counting towards the result concentration was difficult to achieve.
In Division 1 Hanson Pumas got off to a good start, winning 27-15 against Figheldean, thanks to three sets each for Richard Fettes and Ray Carver. The doubles proved to be the hardest fought set with Richard & Ray just managing to beat Phil Cook & Julie Dean 11-5, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10 & 11-7.
Hanson A went even better in defeating Hanson Dolphins 29-11. Josh White and Peter Henderson won three apiece, with Steve Rollason managing two. Mike Cartridge won the only game for the Dolphins beating Steve 8-11, 11-4, 11-4, 9-11 & 9-11 and was only just beaten by Josh in five sets. Again the doubles was very close with Josh & Peter defeating Mike & Dom Raymond 8-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 & 11-7.
Hanson Cougars scraped a 22-18 victory over Hanson Jaguars, with Andy Barnes winning three. Trevor Whitelock and Sue Purton played well for Jaguars and won two apiece. Cougars made hard work of the doubles when Andy & Nick George managed to go to five games against Trevor & Sue before winning 11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-13 & 11-7.
Hanson Panthers took on Hanson Falcons in Division 2, with each team fielding two new players in the league this season. It resulted in a comfortable 24-10 win for Panthers, with Andy Farmer and James Taylor winning three each. David Taylor the 79 year old father of James came in as a last minute reserve, having not played for about 50 years and recorded a hard fought 11-5, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9 & 11-6 win over Val Fox.
