Division 2 commenced with a very narrow defeat for 3D’s at the hands of Hanson Lions 18 – 19, with Karl Jones (Lions) the only player remaining unbeaten. For 3D’s Marie Dyke and Nicky Downs both won two each. Karl had a tuff match with Nicky Downs, before winning 10-12, 2-11, 15-13, 11-7, 11-8. Unfortunately for 3D’s Jessie Yi was out of form and lost to both Jonnie Macey and newcomer Darren Walkom.
Two new teams played each other with Hanson Pigeons going down 12 – 21 to the two man team of Hanson Hawks. Oli Raymond and Adam Lockington (Hawks) both won three each. Adam Shears produced the best performance for Pidgeons taking a game off Adam, then taking Oli to five games, before losing 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 5-11.
Enham, playing their first match, took on Hanson Falcons and recorded a resounding 30 – 4 win. Patrick Baker, Pete Farmer and Roy Horner all won three. Roy had to call on all his experience to hold off newcomer Jason Cullip in five sets, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8.
Hanson Lions went down 12 – 23 to the new and experienced team of Hanson Panthers. Karl Jones (Lions) again remained unbeaten, but Dave Broomfield, Andy Farmer and James Taylor all won two each for Panthers. Karl was made to work hard for his wins just managing to overcome James 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-0 and Andy 10-12, 13-11, 14-12 & 11-7. Karl and Mike Bonarius won their second doubles match together when they defeated James & Dave 3-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5 & 11-7.
The youngsters of Test Valley School (Test Valley A) played their first fixture against Hanson Pidgeons and unfortunately after a spirited performance and some close games went down 0 – 30. Pidgeon’s Nathan Shears, Adam Shears and Blade Medland managed to win all their sets three straight.
In Division 1 Tigers roared to a 7 – 26 win over Figheldean in their first match, thanks to three each (three straight) from Malcolm Cummins and Andy Snellgrove. Jerry Holt (Tigers) dropped their only points, losing to both Phil Cook and Lionel Coles.Hanson Jaguars lost 13 – 24 to Hanson A for whom Josh White won his three, whilst Steve Rollason and Peter Henderson won two apiece. Trevor Whitelock played very well for Jaguars, winning two and just being defeated by Josh 3-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-5 10-12.
