For Handicap Rules – see Handbook

HOW TO USE HANDICAPS

1.      The player with the higher handicap is the stronger player, the player with the lower handicap is the weaker player.

2.      Take the difference between the two handicaps and refer to the chart above.

3.      The weaker player starts on his/her starting number as shown in the right column of the above chart.

4.      If the difference in the two handicaps is over 38 then the weaker player starts on 16 and the stronger player on a minus number as shown in the right column in the lower section of the chart.

5.      If the game goes into the third leg, then calculate how many points each player needs to get to 21. Divide these numbers by 2 to work out when the players should change ends.

6.      Service changes when the score is divisible by 5.

7.      If the stronger player is on a minus starting number , he/she starts at 0 and goes back to 0 when he/she has obtained enough points to cancel their minus starting number.

Examples:-

Stronger players handicap = 52    Weaker players handicap = 22

See chart – difference 30              Weaker player starts on 14

The player serving first will only get 1 serve (i.e. love 14 + 1 = 15 points)

Players should change ends in the third game when either the stronger player gets to 10 or the weaker to 17. whichever is the sooner (the number of points needed to get to 21 is halved and added to their starting score, less any half points)

---------------------------------------

Stronger players handicap = 56    Weaker players handicap = 16

See chart – difference 40              Weaker player starts on 16 & stronger player on -1

The player serving first will get 4 or 5 serves (i.e. 16+4~0(-1) or 16~0+5(-1) = 20 points)

Players should change ends in the third game when either the stronger player gets to 10 or the weaker to 18, whichever is the sooner (the number of points needed to get to 21 is halved and added to their starting score, less any half points)

----------------------------------------

Stronger players handicap = 72    Weaker players handicap = 14

See chart – difference 58              Weaker player starts on 16, stronger player on -11

The player serving first will only get 4 serves (i.e. 16+4~0(-11) or 16~0+4(-11) = 20 points)

Players should change ends in the third game when either the stronger player gets to 12 or the weaker to 19, whichever is the sooner (the number of points needed to get to 21 is halved and added to their starting score, less any half points)

The stronger player starting on a minus number will only go back to zero when they have won enough points to cancel their minus number, as Rule 7 above.
