Andover Advertiser Report 24-11-14

The closest match of the week was in Div 1 when despite a 5 – 5 draw in sets, Pumas beat Hanson A by 23 points to 21. Hanson A have been a little unlucky as this was their second 5 all draw that they lost by two points. Richard Fettes (Pumas) just kept up his 100% record, when holding off Steve Rollason 10-12, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, to win his three sets. He was assisted with two from Shaun Carver, whilst for the opposition Steve also won two sets. Hanson A took the doubles when Peter Henderson & Dan Geary beat Richard & Shaun 11-5, 8-11, 11-1, 6-11, 9-11.

Tigers took Hanson Cougars apart winning 25 – 11, with both Malcolm Cummins and Andy Snellgrove taking three. Steve Harris played well for Cougars beating Jerry Holt and taking games off Malcolm and Andy.

The highest scoring match of season (perhaps) was between Fighledean and Hanson Jaguars, which resulted in a 19 – 18 points win but a defeat by four sets to six. The games showed scores of 19-17, 18-16, 16-14, 14-12 & two 12-10s, not to mention seven 11-9s. Whilst Lionel Coles (Figheldean) won two, the star for Jaguars was Trevor Whitelock with three, ably supported with two from Clive Hacker.

In Div 2 Test Valley A were mauled by Hanson Lions 7 – 25, for whom Mike Bonarius had three, with Darren Walkom and Jonny Macey getting two each. However, the A side managed to double their points total in this one match when recording two wins. Firstly Izzie Woodfield played superbly to defeat Jonny 11-8, 11-8, 13-11, and then Cameron Langdown beat Darren 11-9, 7-11, 13-11, 11-8.

Enham beat an improving Hanson Pidgeons 25 – 15, with Patrick Baker, Pete Farmer and Roy Horner all winning two sets each. The reason one of them did not win three was down to a great performance from Nathan Shears (Pidgeons) who won two of his three sets and only just lost to Patrick 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 13-11. This result was nullified when Simon Przeklasa (Pidgeons) beat Patrick 14-12, 8-11, 7-11, 8-11.

A proper draw was achieved between Hanson Falcons and Hanson Hawks which ended with 17 points each and 5 sets each. Paul Lloyd (Falcons) took three as expected and was supported by two from Jason Cullip. For Hawks Adam Lockington won two, with Ollie Raymond and Matt Selwood managing one each.

The last match in the first round of the Advertiser Cup competition was between 3D’s of Division 2 and Hanson Cougars of Division 1. The result in this one sided encounter was an 8 – 1 win for 3D’s. The handicapping was very fair with four of the six sets going to three games, but unfortunately Cougars only had two players, so handicapped themselves even more. 3D’s deserved to win with Nicky Downs & Marie Dyke both taking two and Jessie Yi getting one.
