The new team of Hanson Leopards recorded a close 25 – 21 victory over Hanson Panthers
in Division 1. Leopards had reserve Rob Macey to thank as he won all his three sets, with
Peter Dyson claiming two and James Clark one. Six of the ten sets went to five games with
Panther’s players managing to win one set each. Panthers took the doubles with a hard
fought 6-11, 8-11, 12-10, 12-10, 10-12 win.
Figheldean had a surprising 24 – 15 win against Hanson ‘A’. Figheldean’s Lionel Coles and
Julie Dean both won two, with Brian Cook managing one. Steve Rollason won two for
Hanson ‘A’ with Dan Geary and Josh White only managing one each. Josh was surprisingly
beaten by Julie who played superbly to win 10-12, 11-7, 11-3, 3-11, 11-8.
The next match for Figheldean was away to Hanson Pumas and despite playing very well,
they lost 21 – 16. This defeat was mainly due to Pumas Richard Fettes winning three, supported by one each from Eddie & Justin Shoemark. Figheldean had a reserve playing so could only manage two each for Lionel Coles and Julie Dean. The closest game was the doubles where Richard & Justin just managed to hold off the challenge of Lionel & Julie to win 9-11, 13-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7.
In Division 2 3D’s got off to a convincing start when beating Hanson Falcons 29 – 6. Steve Harris (3D’s) had a comfortable return to action after surgery and won all three, as did both Marie Dyke and Nicky Downs. Falcons Val Fox & Simon Prosser caused a big surprise when they captured the doubles from Marie & Nicky 11-4, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-13.
Hanson Kestrals continued with only two players so were outgunned on this occasion by Hanson Lions losing 7 – 26. For Lions, Mike Bonarius won his two sets with Ross Walkom and Jill Cook taking one each. Daniel Abbott (Kestrals) had a good 11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7 over the experienced Jill Cook and William Cooper overcame Ross 13-11, 11-7, 11-9.
An improving Test Valley ‘A’ unfortunately went down 2 -30 to Hanson Pidgeons for whom Simon Przeklasa, Nathan & Adam Shears all won three. Alex Dennis (Test Valley) did well taking a game off Adam and with Annabel Anderson put up strong resistance in the doubles against Simon & Adam before losing 11-3, 3-11, 3-11, 7-11.
