Andover Advertiser Report 23-02-15

A late Division 1 result saw Tigers demolish Figheldean 30 – 6. Jerry Holt, Malcolm Cummins and Andy Snellgrove all won three for Tigers. Surprisingly Malcolm was taken to four games by both Brian Cook (Figheldean) and Phil Cook, but kept his 100% record. Also surprising was the three recorded by Jerry, who was forced to go to four games in two sets and only just beat Brian Cook 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-3.

This week Figheldean beat Hanson Dolphins 22 – 14. Phil Cook (Figheldean) won his three, supported by two from Brian Cook and one from Julie Dean. The opposition proved tougher than expected with Mike Cartridge (Dolphins) beating Brian 4-11, 14-12, 11-8, 10-12, 9-11 and Julie 7-11, 9-11, 8-11. Dom Raymond (Dolphins) also played well, beating Julie 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 3-11. Mike & Dom then took the doubles overcoming Phil & Julie 9-11, 9-11, 7-11.

In Division 2 Hanson Lions beat the two man team of Test Valley ‘A’ 30 – 2. Mike Bonarius, Karl Jones and Darren Walkom all won their three sets for Lions. However it was good to see both Ollie Day and Cameron Langdown take a game off Mike and Darren.

The first semi-final in the Weighill Trophy produced an excellent 6 – 3 win for Hanson Pumas over Hanson Cougars. Richard Fettes (Pumas) won three with Ray Carver getting two and Shaun Carver one. Andy Barnes won two and Nick George one for Cougars. The game scores were close but only one of the sets went to three games when Nick had a belated win over Shaun. The pick of the match lined up Richard against Andy with both of them playing off the same handicap. Richard succeeded in winning a very hard fought close couple of games 21-19, 21-91.

In the other semi-final Enham were well beaten 0 - 9 by Figheldean who were giving away 11-13 points per game. Lionel Coles, Phil Cook and Julie Dean all won three, but four of the nine sets went to three games with six games finishing on 20 – 21. Roy Horner (Enham) took Phil and Julie close before just losing 19-21, 21-17, 17-21 & 17-21, 21-17, 20-21. Likewise Patrice Baker had the same trouble with Phil & Lionel, losing 20-21. 20-7, 19-21 & 21-20, 18-21, 14-21.
