Andover Advertiser Report 30-03-15

The top match in Division 1 pitted second placed Hanson Pumas against top of the table Tigers with victory going to Tigers 14 – 23. Andy Snellgrove (Tigers) was the only unbeaten player in winning his three sets, but he was pushed hard for five games by Ray Carver before claiming victory. Malcolm Cummins (Tigers) won two sets, but lost for the first time this season when he went down 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 4-11, 11-7 to Richard Fettes. Richard won two sets for Pumas and Shaun Carver won one, but Ray was unlucky to lose again in five games, this time to Jerry Holt, going down 6-11, 14-12, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11.

In a very tight match Hanson ‘A’ managed a good 24 – 15 win over Figheldean, with Dan Geary and Josh White taking three sets each. Steve Rollason (Hanson ‘A’) won one set as did Julie Dean and Lionel Coles for Figheldean. Out of the nine sets, four went to five games and four went to four games, so it was not surprising that the doubles did not get played, as this match ran out of time.

Hanson Cougars just managed to beat Hanson Dolphins 21 – 15 thanks to three from Andy Barnes. Mike Cartridge (Dolphins) and Rob Macey won two sets each and played really well. Dom Raymond was unlucky on the night eventually losing to Gerry Vaughan (Cougars) 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-11.

Hanson Panthers of Division 2 confirmed their superiority with a 30 – 0 win over fourth placed Enham, with Andy Farmer, James Taylor and Dave Broomfield all winning three.

Second placed 3D’s had a good 30 – 6 win against Hanson Falcons. Marie Dyke, Nicky Downs and Brian Dyke won three sets each. Brian had to work hard to beat Jason Cullip (Falcons) in five games, 11-5, 11-5, 9-11, 9-11, 11-3, as did Marie against Sarah Medland 11-6, 8-11, 6-11, 14-12, 11-6.

The two man team of Hanson Pidgeons lost 13 – 22 to Hanson Lions, although both Nathan Shears and Simon Przeklasa won two sets each. Simon certainly had to play well to defeat Darren Walkom (Lions) 11-3, 12-10, 10-12, 9-11, 11-8.
