Division 1 League Report 21st February 2019 by Nigel Griffiths

The spring term of the table tennis season is well under way but little has changed at the top of Division 1 with  Ruckinge A and Postling A leading the way.  The defending Champions Ruckinge had been making serene progress with 4 wins from 4 with youngster Arthur Bracken their star man, but with Arthur absent this week they suffered a surprising 8-2 reverse to Ashford A. This defeat allowed Postling A to close the gap at the top to just 2 points with a game in hand. Malcolm Skates has been the main man for Postling only dropping 1 game so far. The two teams meet next week to establish top spot.

Ashfords A’s fine win over Ruckinge moved them in to third position with just a defeat to Postling blotting their copy. Mani Khapung remains unbeaten for Ashford and Tom Down has a solid 75% average.

The steady mid table is occupied by Iron Room B with 2 wins from 5, George Epure made a rare appearance and picked up 3 from 3 against a strong  Challock A line up.

At the bottom Little Chart A have won one of their 4 and are on 18 points, with Alan Provan having a very respectable 77.7% average, and their position was helped by a convincing 8-2 over the Challock A this week.   As a result just above the relegation place are Challock A with 15 points from 4 matches with Paul Amos only dropping one game to date. At the foot of the table is newly promoted Challock C with 13 points for whom Darren Richardson is adapting best to life in the top league with a 58% average, but there are a lot of games to play.

It is fabulous to see youngster Arthur Bracken undefeated at the top of the averages with 100%. Also with 100% records are Mani Khapung and George Epure.

There looks to be three teams in it for the title and any one from three for relegation, and Iron Room B could still go either way as we reach the half way point.

Once again can be remind you that Repton Connect will be running Community Table Tennis nights from 8pm on Thursday 7th March, please go along and support their efforts.
