Hamstreet Struggle for Consistency

In recent weeks Hamstreet B have produced a 10-0 victory, and a 10-0 defeat which highlights the diverse standards within Division 4.  This week they paid a visit to Ashford TT D seeking a third straight win, and the opportunity to get in on the promotion race.  Tim Woodhouse had other ideas, picking up a 'player of the match' for his evenings efforts.  Keith young and Dennis Brindley were unable to get close to Tim losing out 3-0, but Glen Walters pushed him all the way to five legs although never actually leading the match, trailing 1-0, and 2-1.  Despite a third leg apparition (11-4), the legs we all tightly fought encounters 11-8 or 11-9 but Tim's confidence on the night saw him though.

New 'boy' to league Darren Holliday added a fourth victory to his growing tally, I a very tight affair with Kwith Young they went the distance  7-11, 8-11, 15-13, 11-8, 9-11.  But Darren held on in the final leg to added to Hamstreets' score.  Unfortunately for Hamstreet that was the sum total of their efforts for the evening with Darren losing out to to Glen Walters in four legs, and Dennis Brindley in five.  Hamstreets' thirds, Andrew Millbank, had a night to forget losing all his matches 3-0.  

First time out Hamstreet won this fixture 7-3, this time they had to settle for a 6-4 defeat.  The result leaves them three points behind the leaders, and five points above Ashford TT D but critically both teams have a game in hand.  Looks like it is going to be tight going into the latter part of the season.

Front ruuners Challock E came off a 10-0 win over Hamstreet last week, and continued their form against Sportsmen C (currently 4th in the Division).  Christopher Hazelden top scored for the home side going undefeated against Maureen Penny, Colin Healey & Alan Brand for the loss of just two legs.  His hat trick was ably supported by a brace from both Richard Partridge and Donald Steadman, although a 14-12 fifth leg defeat by Colin for Richard showed how close he came to his own hatrick.  Donald Steadman fell foul of Maureen Penny (3-1 on the night).  The 8-2 victory allowed Challock to turn a one point deficit to Hamstreet into a three point lead.  Sportsman C are not out of the running but the teams around them all have games in hand which will count against them.

The league turned its attention to the annual closed tournament last weekend, and we hope to provide a ful report shortly.

The opening Community Ping Pong night at Repton Connect Community Centre was a huge success with a friendly atmosphere and a lot of new faces.  Hopefully this evening social will go from strength to strength.  It will run every Thursday from 8pm-11pm, at a cost of £2/head.
