Week 18 Report

Premier Division

Daniel Bronziet made an instant impact in his first match for Basildon 'A'.  His hat-trick plus two wins each for Ian Wall and Eric Green ensured a 7/3 victory for his side in their match against Maylands Green.  Jordan Alan and Bradley Ireland each recorded a singles win for Maylands, and the pair teamed up at the end to win the doubles in what proved to be the closest game of the night.  Despite the loss of the first two sets, they came back to beat Daniel and Eric 5-11, 7-11, 12-10, 14-12, 11-9.

An unbeaten performance from Aaron Chandler was the backbone of Selbourne's 6-4 win over Northlands Park 'B'.  Kim Shead added a brace and Martin Archie won the other point for the home side.  It wasn't all plain sailing for Aaron however, as he was taken the full distance by both Neal Barker and Richard Jackman, having to recover from two sets down to finally overcome Richard.  Northlands' points came from Richard (2), Neal (1) and a doubles win for the pair.

Bruce Kettle and Peter Radford were both unbeaten in Northlands Park 'A's convincing 9/1 win over Hockley 'A' . Norbert Fullerton won 2 games but was denied his hat-trick by Matt Stringer who got the better of him at 11-9 in the final end.  A blank night for both Joerg Poeschus and Dan Patynski, but Dan came close to beating Norbert in the closest game of the evening.  Norbert eventually winning 8-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 12-10.

Division 1

All 6 players were on the scoreboard when Basildon 'C' took on COYS in a match that finished all square.  Gus Heath led the way with a hat-trick for COYS, with teammates John Tendler and Wayne Farmer both adding a point.  Rob Burton was the best on the night for Basildon with wins over John and Wayne, with Colin Clements and Caroline Cole adding a win apiece.  The draw was secured by Rob and Caroline with victory in the final doubles.

It was a one-sided affair when league leaders Basildon 'B' took on Basildon 'D'.  Garry Hartgrove maintained his 100% winning record, well supported by Les Hoey, who was also unbeaten, and Malcolm Henstock who recorded two wins.  Adi Kamma picked up the only point for Basildon 'D' with a win over Malcolm.  No luck on the night for Richard Gill or Tina Hutchinson, although Richard pushed Les all the way before losing out in the final set.  Garry and Les then rounded off a 9/1 victory with a straight sets doubles win.

There was another convincing win for Hadleigh Forum when they visited struggling Stanford 'B'.  Satwant Gill recorded his first maximum of the season to take the POM honours.  Peter Lucraft was also unbeaten for Forum with Colin Barham chipping in with two wins.  8/2 was the final score in Forum's favour with Stanford's points coming from Steve King and a doubles win for Mark Downey and Chris Crooks.

League Chairman Spud Saunders made a (reluctant) appearance for Grays and his, straight sets, maximum helped Grays to a 6/4 win over Stanford 'A'.  Teammate Dmitry Kisil certainly got full value for his match fees as all his games went to 5 sets.  He managed to get the better of Saad Abdullah and Dave Hancox, but fell short against Pete Weatherall, going down 8-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, 8-11.  It was a blank night for Grays skipper Mike Trendell, and so it was left to Spud and Dmitry to clinch the match in the final doubles.

Division 2

League leaders Canvey go marching on.  They maintained their unbeaten record with an 8/2 win over Wickford Community 'B'.  Andrew Murray and Dan Kellard both recorded maximums, with neither dropping a set.  Jo Hills added another point and she and Andrew teamed up to win the doubles.  For Wickford, there were wins for Keith Bushell and Steve Goldstone over Jo, both in 5 sets, but no luck for Jack Kleider.

Peter Moxham and Andrew Jessop were both unbeaten in Stanford 'C's 8/2 win over Basildon 'G'.  Vaughan Chambers added another point with a win over Gloria Acheampong but lost out to Lea Garner and Kashif Saleem.

Wickford Community 'A' were also 8/2 winners this week in their match against Basildon 'E'. Kevin Wollen was POM with a hat-trick.  Dave Carter and Rasheed Olaniyan added a couple of wins each and these two rounded off the night with a doubles win.  Jenne Seibolt was the only winner on the night for Basildon.

Basildon 'F' hosted Stanford 'D' and, in a match where half the games went to 5 sets, were beaten 7/3.  Tony Papasifakis was unbeaten for Stanford, with both Randy and Jake Santiago giving good support with a pair of wins each.  Steve Lennox won two games for Basildon and so nearly beat Tony, but eventually went down        11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 12-10 in the night's closest game.
