Week 19 Report

Premier Division

Just two matches on which to report this week.

Northlands Park 'B' hosted Maylands Green and it was the visitors who came away with a 6/4 win.  Christopher Penrose was the star player for Maylands winning each of his games in straight sets.  Jordan Alan added another two wins and the victory was secured by Christopher and Michael Rigg in the final doubles.  Neal Barker was the best player on the night for Northlands recording with teammates Richard Jackman and Dave Bassett chipping in with a win apiece.

There were plenty of close games in the match between Basildon 'A' and Northlands Park 'A'.  Daniel Bronziet and Ian Wall were both unbeaten for Basildon in their 7/3 victory.  Babul McLeod picked up the other point for Basildon, but, on another day, he could have had a hat-trick of his own, only just losing 8/11 and 10/12 in the final set to Bruce Kettle and Norbert Fullerton respectively.  In the final doubles, Ian and Daniel were just pipped by Bruce and Peter Barrett by a score line of 12-14, 12-10, 13-15, 10-12.

Division 1

A fine maximum from skipper Bob Skews proved to be of no avail as his Basildon 'D' side went down 6/4 to Basildon 'C'.  It was a good team performance from the 'C' team with Caroline Cole and Rob Burton recording two wins each and Chudi Ukpaka adding another point.  Rob and Caroline then  teamed up to win the final doubles and ensure the match win for their side. Richard Gill was the other point winner for Basildon 'D' with victory over Chudi.  No luck on the night for Szymon Jarka.

Basildon 'B' kept up the pace at the top of the table with an 8/2 victory away at Hadleigh Forum.  Robert Kemp was their star player with a hat-trick, but only just got the better of Forum's Tony Ayliffe, eventually winning 12-10 in the final set.  Lin Roff and Garry Hartgrove each recorded two wins, but Garry lost his 100% winning record when Tony beat him in straight sets.  Robert and Garry rounded off the evening by winning the doubles.  A blank night for Dave Woolmer and Colin Barham.

COYS lost ground in their pursuit of Basildon 'B' at the top of the table when they were held to a 5/5 draw by Grays in an entertaining match in which every player made a contribution.  The opposing captains had differing views on the match with Ian Cranstone describing it as "not one of our better results" whereas Mike Trendell called it "a great match, very close with an inspired performance from Max Southby."  In the singles, the reliable Gus Heath recorded a straight sets maximum with John Tendler and Wayne Farmer adding a point each.  Max Southby had good wins over John and Wayne with Mike and Dmitry Kisil chipping in with a win each.  At the end, Ian came off the bench to join Gus in the doubles but it was the Grays pair of Mike and Max who prevailed in straight sets to secure the draw for the team.

Division 2

Canvey continued their unbeaten run and still lead the table.  In their latest match against Stanford 'D', there were hat-tricks from Andrew Murray and POM Dan Kellard, with Jo Hills adding the other point in a 7/3 win.  For Stanford there was a win each for Tony Papasifakis and Jack Diver but a blank night for Jake Santiago, although he joined forces with Jack to win the final doubles.

Wickford Community 'A' are second in the league and, with a game in hand over Canvey, still have a chance of overhauling them.  They were in dominant form against their 'B' team, with their trio of Kevin Wollen, Steve Chooi and POM Dave Carter all unbeaten.  The whitewash was averted in the doubles when Steve Goldstone and Keith Bushell got the better of Kevin and Dave.

Jenne Seibolt was the star player in Basildon 'E's 7/3 win over Stanford 'C'.  He won his three games in straight sets to take the POM.  Skipper Andy Roff recorded his first maximum of the season, Errol Anderson added another win before Peter Moxham and Andrew Jessop ended the evening with a straight sets win in the doubles.  For Stanford, there was a win apiece for Andrew and Peter but a blank night for James Parker.
