Chronicle Report 16th Oct 2014

Last season’s Division 1 runners-up Yatton Keynell B have started the new campaign strongly, their latest win being a comprehensive 9-1 victory over Ensleigh. Ping Zhang claimed the home team’s solitary point by beating Richard Terrell, while Steve Richardson and Mark Terrell both scored maximums for Yatton. Regular first division challengers Oldfield D have also started well, securing a second 8-2 success, this time against Newbridge. Greg Burridge took the honours for the winners with a treble, and Mike Newton and Julie Taylor recorded two wins each. Colin Dowding won the two games for the visitors.

Yatton Keynell C’s first win in Division 2 after relegation was an emphatic 10-0 triumph over Bath Civil Service. Father and son, Tony and Lewis Payne, and Martin Wilkins all recorded maximums for the winners. Elsewhere Key Centre B secured their second win of the season by defeating Oldfield E 7-3 away. Dave Carter starred again for the away team with another hat-trick, and was well supported by Mark Tanner and Sue Ruse who both won two games. Brian Waller (2) scored the only singles points for Oldfield, to add to their doubles success.

In the Premier Division, reigning champions Chippenham A started the defence of their crown in the best possible fashion by whitewashing Yatton Keynell A 10-0, with Terry Parkins, John Clifford, and Gary Baldwin all going undefeated. Last season’s third placed team, Bathford A, look as though they will again be challenging for honours after recording their second big win of the season – an 8-2 away success against Chippenham C. Albert Bolhuis and Matt Lloyd both claimed trebles for Bathford, with Ray Bennett adding the other singles point. Scott Cooper and Alan Feltham won a game each for the hosts.
