Chronicle Report 12th Nov 2015

Division 2 title contenders Radstock Wreckers had their first real test of the season at home to Oldfield E, but still managed a 6-4 win. Man of the match Wayne Button’s maximum was the deciding factor, with Dan Walker (2) and Steve Moss adding the other points for the hosts. Keith Walter (2) and Lee Bailey won games for the away team.

Chippenham D belatedly started their season with a 7-3 defeat at their Langley Burrell home, against a strong Bathford D side. A treble from the vastly experienced Jim Wheeler gave them their first points of the campaign, leaving Russell Cole, Richard Wickham, and Julian Kashdan-Brown with a brace of wins apiece for the visitors.

In the Premier Division Chippenham B had to work hard in the end to beat Key Centre A 6-4 away in a strange affair. Chippenham won the first 5 games in straight sets, but the remaining 4 singles games went the distance with the home team winning three of them. Andy Cox’s hat-trick was crucial, although he was well supported by Scott Cooper (2) and Alan Feltham. Ken Milsom, Peter Galea, and Martyn Le Butt won a game each for Key Centre in reply.

Bathford A had a 7-3 success at home to Radstock Working Men’s Club A. Albert Bolhuis and Ray Bennett both carded maximums for the victors, with Dave Montano, Derek Landricombe, and Keren Millard sharing the points for the visitors.

Frys and Bathford B had quite a tussle at Bitton in Division 1, which ended with the home team edging the result 6-4. Phil Turner starred with a hard earned treble for Frys and there was also a pair from Fred Martin. Chen Chen’s double was best for the away team, whose other points came from Colin Thomas and Steve Phillips.

Oldfield D and Mayfield went into their match, at Monkton Combe, both looking for their first win of the season, and it was the home side who gained a 6-4 success after a marathon contest. Greg Burridge took the honours for the victors with a battling hat-trick, with Brian Neathey also carding a brace. Mayfield replied through David Galley (2) Nigel Woolley, and Reg Morris.
