Chronicle Report 6th Oct 2016

Premier Division champions Chippenham A opened the new Bath and District League season as they left off, with an impressive 7-3 win against their B team club-mates. Gary Baldwin, Terry Parkins, and Jerry Musselwhite all registered doubles for the victors. The B team responded through Andy Cox (2) and Scott Cooper, who recorded a notable success against Gary Baldwin.

A strengthened Bath Invaders A made the best possible start to their Premier Division campaign, after promotion from Division One. They beat a weakened Key Centre A 10-0, with Len Vowles, Ray Hall, and Ian Maggs all undefeated.

In Division One, promoted Bear Flat A also got off to a winning start, 6-4 away against Yatton Keynell B. Paul Green led the way for Bear Flat with a fine maximum, and there were further singles wins from Pete Gibbs and Andy Steady. Adam Dawes and Andy Purkiss replied for the hosts with a brace apiece.

Newly formed Oldfield E could well be a force in Division One judging by their emphatic 9-1 away victory against Bathford C, whose only point was earned by Richard Gaisford. Dan Rider and Charlie Joyce registered trebles for the visitors, with Alex Porter adding a pair.

In Division Two a new and inexperienced Ensleigh B team were no match for steadily improving Bear Flat B who claimed all ten points. Gary Oaten, John Hunter, and Keith Gammon were the unbeaten Bear Flat trio.

A much more even contest took place at Yatton Keynell, where the village D team and Batheaston B shared the points. Joe Dukes carded a brace for the hosts, with Ben Sage and Andy Delaney adding a game apiece to supplement the point gained in the doubles. Bill Avery and Richard Cotton won two games each for Batheaston, with Chris Sharpe adding the fifth point.
