At the other end of the table Oldfield D moved clear of danger with their first win of the season, a 7-3 away victory over win-less Mayfield, whose points came from Dave Galley (2) and Steve Tanner. Julie Taylor took the honours for the victors with a fine maximum and she was well supported by Greg Burridge (2) and Brian Neathey.

Oldfield F returned from St John’s school with a 7-3 win against Bear Flat B. Ian Dagger and Lee Bailey both registered hat-tricks for the away side, with Paul Harris adding their other point. John Hunter and Trevor Floyd won a game each for the hosts, which were supplemented by success in the doubles.

Current Premier Division champions Chippenham A continued their charge towards another title with an 8-2 win at home to bottom team Key Centre A. Jerry Musselwhite was unbeaten for the title-chasers, but Martyn Le Butt won games against Roy Cary and Terry Parkins to earn the visitors’ points.

Yatton Keynell A’s 6-4 home win against Radstock Working Men’s Club A saw them move further away from the relegation positions, whist leaving their opponents in deeper trouble. Jamie Smith’s maximum was the deciding factor, although Keith Holland and Shaun Eagles also contributed points for the victors. Derek Landricombe and Dave Montano won a brace apiece for Radstock in response
