Chronicle Report 2nd Feb 2017

Division 1 leaders Oldfield E came out on top of a closely fought battle with fellow promotion chasers Bitton, winning 6-4 at their Monkton Combe base. Dan Rider starred for the hosts with a treble, which was supplemented by further wins from Charlie Joyce (2) and Alex Porter. Fred Martin, Martin Moore, and Alan Papier won a game each for Bitton, with Martin’s being a notable victory against the previously unbeaten Joyce.

Radstock Wreckers recorded an emphatic 9-1 home win against relegation threatened Mayfield, whose sole point was earned by Dave Galley. Wayne Button and Paul Crocker both carded maximums for the Wreckers, with Dave Gamlin adding a further two points.

Batheaston C held their A team club-mates to a draw in Division 2, thanks to an excellent hat-trick from William Avery, and singles from Glen Avery and James Smith-Daye. Dennis Townsend registered a brace for the A team, with Gary Sartain and Norman Thomas winning a game apiece.

Richard Smith claimed bottom team Ensleigh B’s only point as they went down 9-1 at Bathford D. Tony Parr and John Holding both registered trebles for the hosts, and Evan Holding added a pair.

Alan Champneys was the man of the match in a well contested Oldfield derby in the Premier Division, between the club’s A and B teams, which resulted in a 6-4 victory for the A team. Mark Woodcock and Dave Bartlett also won games for the A’s, whilst Paul Redman (2) Jim Stevens and Nigel Dagger responded for the B team.

Radstock Working Men’s Club A recorded an 8-2 away success against bottom team Key Centre A, which moves them further away from the relegation spots. However, their task was made easier by an unfortunate injury to Peter Galea early in his first game, which left him unable to continue. Chris Bennett carded a fine maximum for the visitors, with Dave Montano and Phil Ware also on the scoresheet. Martyn Le Butt earned the home side’s two points.
