Chronicle Report 9th Nov 2017

First met second at Langley Burrell in division 2, but the score-line was not close as leaders Chippenham D overwhelmed Bathford D by 27 points to 7. Richard Wickham did manage an excellent win against Steve Deeble (his first defeat of the season) but Russell Cole’s single point was all that the visitors added to Wickham’s 4 points and one from the doubles. Jim Wheeler and Tom Griffiths both carded maximums for the hosts, to supplement Deeble’s 6 points.

Chippenham E, however, are at the other end of the table and were victims of an even heavier defeat (30-2) at home to Oldfield F, whose team of Lee Bailey, Paul Harris, and Colin Dowding all scored the full 9 points. The home team’s points were earned by Mike Entwistle and Simon Tandy.

Bath Invaders A dismissed a potential challenger for premier division honours, with a convincing 28-8 home victory over Oldfield D. Dave Busari and Bhargav Uday Chandra both claimed maximums for the hosts, with Julian Elsbury adding a further 7 points. Charlie Joyce scored 5 points for the away team, including a fine win against Elsbury, and Dan Rider added a further three.

Martyn Le Butt starred for Oldfield B with nine points as they recorded a 22-16 win against Yatton Keynell A at Monkton Combe. Nigel Dagger (7) and Jim Stevens (6) were also on the scoresheet for Oldfield, whilst Jamie Smith (5) Steve Richardson (5) and Keith Holland (3) replied for their opponents, who also won the doubles.

In the second division Yatton Keynell B shaded a tight contest at home to Bear Flat A, winning 19-16 despite a customary maximum from Paul Green and further points from Pete Gibbs (4) and Andy Steady (2) for the away side. Richard Terrell’s 7 points was best for the hosts, for whom Adam Dawes (6) and Joe Dukes (3) also earned singles points.

Ian Clark again starred for Ensleigh A with maximum points as they won 22-16 away to Oldfield E. He was well supported by young Olly Newton, whose 7 points included a win against grand-father Mike, and David Hockney who added 4 points. Julie Taylor led the home team’s reply with 7 points and both Mike Newton and Brian Neathey carded threes.
