Chronicle Report 22nd Feb 2018

Little separates Oldfield B and Bathford B in the Premier division table and this was reflected in a 20-18 score-line in favour of Oldfield, the home team. Nigel Dagger took the honours for the victors with a maximum, while Martyn Le Butt (7) and reserve Mike Newton (3) also contributed. Leon Kashdan-Brown headed the visitors’ response with 7 points, and father Julian (4 points, playing up two divisions) and Steve Husbands (5) were also on the scoresheet.

Radstock A were helped in their quest to stay up by the failure of visiting Oldfield D to raise a full side. However, maximum singles points from Ali Pearson and Charlie Joyce meant that the away team returned with a 20-15 success. Phil Ware, Derek Landricombe, and Chris Bennett all earned one point in singles for the hosts, to add to the forfeited points and a victory in the doubles.

Oldfield E entertained Radstock B in the First division and recorded a 21-18 victory which leaves them safely in mid-table. Julie Taylor led the way for the home side with 8 points, with Greg Burridge and Brian Neathey both claiming six. Wayne Button carded a full 9 points for Radstock in defeat, whilst Mark Bennetts added six and Dan Walker a single point.

Yatton Keynell C went down 23-9 at home to Bear Flat A with only Alasdair Hulbert (6) registering any singles points. Paul Green carded another maximum for the visitors, and Paul Gibbs and Andy Steady also scored well with eight and six points respectively.

Bathford D are firmly established in second spot in Division 2 and further enhanced their promotion prospects with 27-9 win away to Batheaston B. Russell Cole and Richard Wickham both claimed maximum points for Bathford, with Julian Kashdan-Brown adding a further 6 points. Chris Sharpe (6) Phil Gentle (2) and Mel Henry accounted for the home team’s points.

Radstock C edged above Oldfield F in the table after a convincing 24-10 home success. Paul Crocker starred with the full 9 points for the victors, but Simon Young (8) and Steve Moss (7) were not far behind. Lee Bailey (3) Ian Dagger (3) and Paul Harris replied for Oldfield, who also won the doubles.
