Batheaston A defeated Bear Flat B 25-17 away to leave themselves with an outside chance of promotion from Division 2, but they will need to overturn a massive eighteen point lead held by Bathford D when they play each other in the final match. Dennis Townsend captured 8 points for the victors, with Pete Smith and Gary Sartain adding 7 points apiece. In reply Gary Oaten and Trevor Floyd both carded 7 points and Dave Naismith a single.

Dave Naismith also turned out for the C team that evening and earned 8 points, with Jon Turner and John Hunter securing maximums, as they overcame two-man Bathford E 29-9. The visitor’s points came from Tony Parr (4) and Evan Holding (2) plus two from the doubles.

Chippenham A celebrated retaining their Premier Division title by thumping lowly Oldfield C 30-6 at Langley Burrell. Gary Baldwin, Terry Parkins, and Alan Feltham were all unbeaten for the champions, whilst Dennis Coombe (3) Mike Noel (2) and Mervyn George earned Oldfield’s points.

Alan Papier (7) was the only Bitton player to win any singles points as the bottom team went down 27-8 away to Bathford B. Young reserve Will Avery took all 9 points for the hosts, as did Steve Husbands, with Ray Bennett adding six.

In Division 1, Chippenham C secured promotion by demolishing two-player Oldfield E 30-4 at Monkton Combe, with Andy Perham, John Clifford, and Brenda Baldwin their undefeated trio. Mike Newton (3) and Julie Taylor won the home team’s 4 points.

Bathford C won 26-9 at Yatton Keynell C with Will Avery and Colin Thomas carding maximums and Glen Avery adding 5 points. Jeff Flynn and Alasdair Hulbert both claimed 4 points for Yatton.
