Chronicle Report 19th Apr 2018

In the final round of scheduled fixtures the Premier Division’s bottom team, Bitton, came close to recording their first win of the season at home to Yatton Keynell A, but eventually slipped to a 20-21 defeat. Alan Papier starred for the hosts with a maximum and he was backed up by Chris Toft (7) and Fred Martin (3). Steve Richardson and Keith Holland both claimed 7 points for the away side, with Shaun Eagles adding four.

Oldfield C have probably reached safety after defeating Bathford B 21-16 at Monkton Combe. Sasi Anandraj carded the full 9 points for the home team, with Nick Branch (8) and Bill Guibarra completing their tally. In reply Josh Kashdan-Brown collected 8 points, with brother Leon and Steve Husbands adding 2 and 3 points respectively.

In Division 1, third placed Key Centre A completed their fixtures with a 21-17 home win against Ensleigh A, despite Ian Clark’s maximum for the visitors and 3 points each from Ping Zhang and David Hockney. Ken Milsom led the way for the victors with 8 points, with Peter Galea adding six and Richard Sturman four.

Key Centre B have finished bottom of the table and went down 27-7 at home to Radstock B, for whom Mark Bennetts and Wayne Button both carded the full 9 points, and Dan Walker seven. The hosts did manage to win the doubles 3-2, as well as collecting further points from Mark Tanner (3) and Dave Carter.

Division 2’s second and third placed sides met at Batheaston, but the home club’s A team were unable to prevent Bathford D from taking the runners-up position despite a 20-18 win in the final match. Gary Sartain took the honours for the hosts with a maximum, and Dennis Townsend (5) and Pete Smith (3) were also on the scoresheet. Richard Wickham’s 8 points was best for the promoted Bathford team, for whom Russell Cole (6) and Julian Kashdan-Brown (3) also contributed.

Ensleigh B are second from bottom after losing 28-6 away to Radstock B, with Glyn Flinders (5) and Brendan Rouse earning their points. Simon Young and Paul Crocker both registered maximums for Radstock, with Jack Hier adding a further 7 points.
