Club Competition 16-10-20

Week 2 of the Bexhillians club Internal Club Competition again saw some fiercely competed matches, despite increasing threats of an East Sussex lockdown.

The Barry family took centre stage this week with serial Hastings champion Paul Barry filling in for Ball Bashers. Barry took a comfortable maximum against Rose & Two Thorns but to no avail as the Bashers went down 6-3 with Rose Rainton, Tony Catt and Sheila King all winning twice for the winners.  All sets were decided in straight games.

Ryan Heselden will take over as a regular for Ball Bashers next week, but this week he was a floating reserve for Going Down who had one player somewhere in Eastern Europe and another simply missing in action. Heselden’s three wins, backed up by two from John Ellis, were key in a 6-3 win over TT Allstarz in a match which could have gone either way. Going Down had moved into a 3-2 lead without a deciding game being needed before Ellis had a good win over Roy Funnell at 13-11 in the decider. Paul Hyland, who won two for the Allstarz, then beat Brian Busbridge 12-10 in the third before Going Down took the last two sets in straight games.

Going Down lead the table alphabetically from Ivory Rose who beat Slovakquickdust 5-4.  Martin Kapusta had his second maximum for the Slovaks, including an excellent win over Graham Gillett who won two for Ivory Rose, as did Alan McCleave.  Ivory Rose had to come from 3-4 down when George Reidy did well to take Gillett the distance and McCleave beat John Bradbury 11-9, 12-10 to take the points.

Roger Pingram was unbeaten again for Bats Atoxic and they gained their first win, 5-4 over Winter Mixtures. Keith Lindsay filled in again for the Toxics and again started with a splendid win, this time over Andy Chapman to help his team to a 4-0 lead.  The Mixtures fought back with Andy Panayi winning two, Pam Winter beating Lindsay and Chapman redeeming himself with a win over John Dyson at 12-10 in the third.
