Club Competition 03-06-21

Week 5 of the Team Competition saw leaders Rose & Two Thorns having to defend their top spot without Tony Catt and a real risk of an upset against Going Down. A maximum from Rose Rainton and two wins from Sheila King in a 5-4 win ensured the run of R&2T would continue and consigned Going Down to their third consecutive defeat. Andy Chapman kept the losers in the match with two wins but, at 4-4, King saved two match points to beat Brian Busbridge 12-10 in the decider.

Second-placed Ball Bashers were below strength and dropped two places after their 2-7 defeat to Ivory Rose who moved above them in the process.  Graham Gillett was unbeaten for Ivory Rose with Pete Robinson and Alan McCleave both winning twice.  Giillett conceded a mere 21 points in six games while Kevin McEwan kept Bashers in the match with two wins.

TT Allstarz go second after beating Winter Mixtures 6-3, with three wins for Arthur Bracken and two for Paul Hyland.  Andy Panayi picked up two for the Mixtures and , despite a number of close games all ten sets were won in straight games.

At the foot of the table, Slovakquickdust are celebrating their first win after an 8-1 pummelling of two-man Bats Atoxic which left the losers three points adrift at the foot of the table.  Despite losing their first five matches, the Slovaks picked up a bonus point in all five, thanks mainly to the efforts of Martin Kapusta, who was again unbeaten, as was John Bradbury.
