TTE Club Volunteer of the Year 2022

Trevor Towner, secretary of Bexhillians Premier Table Tennis Club, was presented with Table Tennis England’s  Pride of Table Tennis England Award for Club Volunteer of the Year by club chairman Graham Gillett (whose father Roger ran the club for over 50 years) in front of some of the clubs present members.

The club is the oldest club in the area and has approximately 50 members, aged 8 t0 85, some of whom travel from such  towns and villages in East Sussex  as Seaford, Newhaven, Alfriston, Polegate, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Pevensey, Heathfield, Hastings, Winchelsea Beach and Guestling to play at the venue.

The club has 8 teams competing in this year’s Hastings and District Table Tennis League. During Covid restrictions, Trevor made sure that he kept in touch with all his players and arranged for essential items to be brought and delivered to those who were house-bound and with the help of another club member, Brian Busbridge, set up a club website and league for all players of different standards in the area, whose clubs could not open, to come to the Bexhillians  venue and play competitive table tennis . Bexhill Youth and Community Centre manager Paul White helped set up the venue to meet Covid regulations so that this league, social table tennis and coaching sessions could continue and Bexhillians Table Tennis club thank him for his  support.
