Harvey Webb
To my table tennis friends
My beloved husband, Harvey, passed away peacefully on 7th November 2024 at St Michael's Hospice in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex. Harvey had been diagnosed with mesothelioma on 24th October and so we had precious few last days together. Somewhere during his life Harvey had been exposed to asbestos, it can lay dormant for 50 years or more, and he had no idea where or when he had been in contact with it. It is incurable and it was not possible for Harvey to receive treatment.
As you know, Harvey dedicated himself to the sport he loved and was involved from an early age as a player, administrator and organiser. Firstly, as a volunteer and then as National Events Manager with the ETTA. He held many positions at club and league level, county with Middlesex, with the ETTA and latterly with the Swaythling Club International as Deputy President and then Secretary.
Harvey was honoured by the ETTA with the Ivor Montagu Award in 1981, a Vice-President in 1986, the AK Vint Staff Award in 2004 and an Honorary Life Member in 2011.
I thank all Harvey's many, many friends for their friendship and for loving table tennis as much as Harvey did.
I would ask that I receive no phone calls at the present time and I will answer any messages when I am able. I am sure you will understand I will not be carrying out any archive or research work for the time being.
