Stephen Scowcroft retains singles and Charles Musa wins treble in Closed Championships
LAST week saw the culmination of the Bolton League season when 38 players took part in the Closed Championships.
In the junior singles competition which had been played the previous Tuesday, Max Brooks beat Jei Makino 11-6, 11-6, 11-5.
On Monday all other finals took place prior to the trophy presentation.
In the handicap veterans (over 60) singles Tom Ryan beat Kevin Chapman 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9.
The level veterans (over 40) singles saw Charles Musa beat Stephen Barber 11-7, 11-4, 11-9 in the first of three titles won by Musa.
In the handicap singles competition Adele Spibey (+1) beat John Barker (Scr) in a thrilling five-setter 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-4, 11-4.
Another closely-fought five setter had the handicap doubles pairing of Musa and Majid Tubasum (-4) beating Max Brooks and David Cain (+1) 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 2-11, 11-9.
In the level doubles Musa and Majid Tubasum beat Stephen Barber and Dennis Collier 11-7, 11-4, 11-4.
In the final event of the night, the level singles, Stephen Scowcroft retained his title by beating Zac Cantor 8-11, 17-15, 14-12, 11-8.
George Berry bowed out as tournament secretary after many years and was presented with a carriage clock as a small memento in appreciation of his services.
