Bolton News 12th April - Cup Finals - Closed Championships Start
Last week we had the Cup Finals and the start of the Closed Championships. On the Monday two remaining cup semi-finals took place.

In the Warburton Cup for all divisions, Nomads B gave St. Paul’s Peel 177.5 start but just ran out winners 390 – 387.5. Nomads commended St. Paul’s Peel for the spirit and sportsmanship under which such a hard fought close match was played.
In the Brian Gittins Cup for the Premier and Division One teams, Ramsbottom Town A took on Farnworth SC A who had a start of 149.5. Ramsbottom overcame that to run out winners 385 – 369.5.

On Wednesday three cup finals took place at the Hilton Centre. In the Warburton Cup Nomads B played Ramsbottom Town B who had a 51.5 start. Ramsbottom made full use of this running out winners 362.5 – 341.
In the Brian Gittins Cup Ramsbottom Town A Played Little Lever A who had a start of 58.5. After the first five sets Little Lever were in front by five points. However, Ramsbottom came storming back over the next four sets to win 379 – 327.5.
In the George Yates competition for Divisions Two & Three Meadow Ben C made use of their 65.5 start to overcome BRASS B 384.5 – 322.

The lead ups to the Closed Championships finals were also played last week.

In the Handicap Doubles Charles Musa & Paul Brandwood beat Adele Spibey & Matthew Fishwick 12-10, 11-9, 11-4 and will play Peter McCormick & Sam Greenhalgh in the final who beat Chris Naylor & Bob Bent 12-10, 11-7, 9-11, 10-12, 11-7.

In the Level Doubles Charles Musa & Paul Brandwood beat Stephen Scowcroft & David Scowcroft 11-6, 13-11, 11-4. They will face Majid Tubasum & Khamal Hussain who beat Keith Dale & Nadeem Ahmed 11-6, 11-4, 11-7.

The Level Vets (40+) saw Charles Musa beat Tony Bates 14-12, 11-4, 11-9. He will play Stephen Scowcroft who beat Tony Worthington 11-5, 2-11, 15-13, 10-12, 11-9.

In the Handicap Singles Charles Musa beat Dave Scowcroft 12-10, 11-3, 9-11, 11-9 and will play Mohammed Sagied who beat Brian Hallsworth 11-8, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7.

It was decided to play the Level Singles Semi-finals this week on Finals night as a prelude to the final. These will be between Stephen Scowcroft against Tony Worthington and Majid Tubasum versus Charles Musa.
