Bolton News 20 November

The Bolton & District Table Tennis League had another break from league matches last week as it was time for the first round of the Divisional Cups. As is usual with first rounds many teams had a week off as a bye.

The Brian Gittins Cup for teams in the Premier and Division One took place. As with the Warburton Cup played earlier, a new handicap system based on the relative strength of the individual players turning up on the night is being used.

Hilton A gave Little Lever Cricket Club B a 129.5 start yet were able to hold onto a win 394 – 374.5 with Hilton’s Mark Gibson winning eleven of his twelve games. Ramsbottom A gave Coburg a 136.1 start but were able to win out 398 – 323.5. It was a much closer match between Hilton C and Burning Desire with wins and losses shared between players. Hilton had a 91.5 start but were just pipped by Burning Desire 365 – 363.5.

In the George Yates Shield for teams in Divisions Two and Three, Heaton Cricket Club B gave Farnworth Social Circle D a 66.5 start yet ran out winners 358 – 347.5 in a well-balanced match with no player dominating the others. Meadow Ben C were drawn against their own D team who had a 66.5 start. The C team ran out winners 363 – 325.5 with again no one player outshining the others. St. Paul’s Peel had a 9.5 start against Hilton Top Spinners, but did not need it running out winners 368.5 – 314 with St Paul’s Peels’ Lee Devenport winning all his twelve games. Polonia Club C were winners against Hilton H who had a 73.5 start. The final score being 392 – 328.5 with Polonia’s Karolina Mucha winning all her twelve games.

There are two more results to come. In the meantime, this week we continue with League matches.
