Bolton News 31 January

Last week the Bolton Table Tennis League’s top teams continued to milk points from the lower teams. Unbeaten top team Glodwick continued to apply the pressure in beating Little Lever Cricket Club A 24 – 7 with nines from Meng Cheng and Sean Doherty. Second placed Ramsbottom Town A beat their own fourth placed B team 22 – 12 helped by a nine from Michael Moir. Flixton Cricket Club A took advantage of a 27 – 4 win as they met bottom team Burning Desire. Other mid-table matches saw Nomads reverse their fortunes from the first half of the season beating Radcliffe Cricket Club 17 – 15. This was largely due to man of the match Yaroslav Zubets on nine and making only his second appearance of the season. Hilton A beat Ladybridge A 23 – 11 with a nine from Andrew Michnowiec. Flixton Cricket Club B took advantage of Wharton with a maximum pointer 27 – 5.

Teams at the top of Division One are very closely packed. Coburg who are just top by one point had a 22 – 9 win over Wingates assisted by a nine from Chris Naylor. One point behind them, Ramsbottom Town C beat their own D team 18 – 14 despite a resisting nine from David Kay. Just behind them, Hilton B had a maximum 27 – 5 win over Heaton Cricket Club A. Fourth placed Hilton D took advantage of a two-man Farnworth SC A 27 – 4. Little Lever Cricket Club B had a 23 – 15 win over bottom team Hilton E helped by a nine from Roy Costello. Hilton C beat Meadow Ben A 22 – 17 with a nine from Andrew Morey.

In Division Two there was a reversal of fortunes with higher teams often falling foul of lower teams.  Front leader Bolton TTC A had a surprising defeat when their own B team took them to task 23 – 16. The B team’s relatively newly acquired Sam Greenhalgh was largely responsible by achieving nine points. Second placed St. Paul’s Peel were also in for a shocker when third from the bottom Farnworth SC B beat them 24 – 10 with a nine from Martyn Garnet. Third placed Meadow Ben B also suffered at the hands of second from the bottom Farnworth SC C who with a nine from Ben Wyatt went on to win 18-16. Brass Zone beat Heaton Cricket Club B by the same score helped by nine from Phil Petts. Ninth placed Top Spinners took out bottom team Meadow Ben C 22 – 12 with nines from Alan Bradshaw and Gary Hilton.

Division Four’s Walkden Methodists march on with a 22 – 13 win over Polonia Club B with man of the match Carl Bennett on nine. Second placed Hilton F just beat fourth placed Meadow Hill A 20 – 17 assisted by a nine from Ian Raby in a tightly fought finish. Third placed juniors Hilton H beat Meadow Ben D 21 – 16. This leaves only three points separating positions 2, 3 & 4. In the rest of the table Irlam Steel SC just beat Ladybridge C 17 – 15 helped by a nine from David Yates. Albany had a good full points 27 – 7 win over second from the bottom Hilton G and Farnworth SC D took out Meadow Ben B 26 – 3 with nines from David Wyatt and Pete Walker.
