Last week, with the first half of the season done for most divisions in the Bolton Table Tennis League, teams played the second round of the Warburton Cup. In the top half of the draw, of the results in so far, Division One’s Little Lever Cricket Club B made good use of their 107.5 start just managing to beat Burning Desire from the same Division 397.5 – 380. Division One’s Heaton Cricket Club A also with a 149.5 start were able to beat Premier team Ladybridge A  447.5 – 366. However, Division One’s Meadow Ben’s A start of 91.5 was not enough to overcome Wigan TTC from the same division as they went down 384 – 334.5. The Premier Division’s Radcliffe Cricket Club were unable to raise a team giving Division One’s Hilton C a walkover into the next round.

In the lower half of the draw, Meadow Ben C from Division Three had a 33.5 start against Farnworth Social Circle C in the same division. Farnworth were just able to hold on with a 346 – 339.5 win. Division Two’s Saint Paul’s Peel had a 71.5 start against Polonia Club B in the same division, but Polonia won be an incredible 366 – 254.5 score. Juniors Hilton I from Division Three made good use of their 265.5 start overcoming Division Two’s Ladybridge B 442.5 – 405.  Albany from Division Three had a 127.5 start against Division Two’s Hilton E. That was well enough to give them a 428.5 – 362 win. Division Two’s Hilton F were drawn against their own H team from Division Three. With the H team on 61.5 start, the F team held on winning 337 – 332.5.  

Meanwhile, although the first half of the season is over for the majority of Divisions, Division Three being slightly larger have to fit another two weeks worth of league fixtures in, alongside Cup matches before Christmas. Last week in the first of these two, Joint top of the table Meadow Hill A beat Hilton H 22 – 9 with nines from John Nuttall and Roy Caswell. Joint top Farnworth Social Circle C also had a 23 – 10 win over Hilton G assisted by a nine from Ben Wyatt. Third-placed Meadow Ben C had an open date while fourth-placed Irlam Steel’s result is yet to come. Fifth-placed Polonia Club C had a good full points  27 – 3 win over Hilton I juniors. Ladybridge C were able to notch up another win to their belt as they overcame Albany 19 – 10. Farnworth Social Circle D were able to amass points as they beat a two-man bottom of the table Meadow Hill B 27 – 6.
