Bolton News 30th October

The Bolton & District Table Tennis League took a week off from league matches last week to play the first round of the Warburton Cup. This is a competition for all the teams in the league. However, to reduce numbers to the correct balance for a knock out most teams had a bye and only five matches were scheduled. A new handicap system was is also being trialled for Cup matches this year. Instead of the handicap being based on the league table’s team separation it is now based on the relative strength of the individual players that turn up on the night as shown in the published rankings on the Table Tennis England website.

Of the results in, Polonia Club B overcame Meadow Ben B who had a 7.5 start winning out 348 - 305.5. Hilton F made good use of their 65.5 start beating Brasszone 367.5 – 343. St. Pauls Peel ran out winners against Farnworth Social Circle B who had a 56.5 start beating them a close 362 – 357.5. Farnworth Social Circle C had a 49.5 start but apparently didn’t need it running out winners 378.5 – 300 against Hilton Top Spinners.

Next week sees a return to League matches. Since we are now well over half way through the first half of the season, many teams near the top of their respective divisions will be in action against each other over the coming weeks leading up to the Christmas break.
