Bolton News 9 April

Last week the final matches of the league season took place in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League. In the Premier Division, it was the meeting of the top two. This time it was Flixton Cricket Club A who were at home to Ramsbottom Town A. The top team Ramsbottom took it 22 – 11 assisted by nine from Ryan Choong. They also played the semi-final of the Brian Gittins Cup in tandem with the league match. It was played virtually from scratch as Flixton only had a 2.5 start. Ramsbottom took it 360 games to 306.5. Third-placed Ramsbottom Town B had a 16 – 16 draw against mid-table Little Lever Cricket Club A helped by nine from Sandy Choong. Flixton B just four points behind were up against fifth-placed Hilton A and just took it 20 – 17. Radcliffe Cricket Club B beat Ladybridge A 22 – 12 helped by nine from Kristof Pinter and Nomads beat Wharton 19 – 14 with the usual resisting nine from Barry Elliott.

In Division One Burning Desire have been on top throughout and completed the season with a 25 – 10 win over fifth-placed Coburg with nines coming from Brett Haslam and Stuart Landes. Consistently in second place, Wigan TTC took advantage of bottom team Meadow Ben A with a full-points 27 – 4 victory.  Third-placed Ramsbottom Town D also triumphed 25 – 13 over Little Lever Cricket Club B in sixth place with nines coming from Martin Holt and Tommy Ryan. Fourth-placed Polonia Club A also had a 23 – 13 win over Farnworth Social Circle A assisted by nine from Kryspin Zajac. Matches from the bottom half of the table had Hilton C beating Heaton Cricket Club A 19 – 12 helped by nine coming from Jei Makino and Hilton D just beat Wingates 20 – 17.

Division Two’s Saint Paul’s Peel are convincingly in first place finishing with a 25 – 11 win over second-bottom Walkden Methodists, with the usual nine from Lee Devenport. Edging into second place by one point is the Polonia Club B team who beat now third-placed Hilton E 24 – 8 with nine points from Dusan Blazo. In fourth place, Meadow Ben B had success over tenth placed Farnworth Social Circle B 21 – 16 helped by nine from Mike Heaton. Mid-table Brasszone beat Hilton Top Spinners three places below them 20 – 18 assisted by nine from Roger Bertrand and mid-table Ladybridge B beat bottom of the table Hilton F 25 – 6 with nines from John Birchall and John Cole.

In Division Three, top team Farnworth Social Circle C finished their season with an expected hammering of bottom team Meadow Hill B 27 – 1, while now confirmed in second place Meadow Hill A  had a 22 – 14 success over Hilton G assisted by nine from John Nuttall.  Third-placed Meadow Ben C finished with a 23 – 16 win over mid-table Polonia Club C helped by nine from Ian Wheeldon. Fourth-placed Farnworth Social Circle D have gradually improved over the season due to the acquisition of new player  Elena Cecilia Tepelus. They beat juniors Hilton I with a full 27 – 3 points win. Mid-table Irlam Steel now departing the league due to player’s relocations could only manage a two-man team as they just beat Albany one place below 17 – 15 with David Yates on nine for Irlam.
