Bolton News 11 December

Last week in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League the second round of the Warburton Cup competition for all teams in the league took place.

In the top half of the draw, Meadow Ben A from Division One made use of their 47.5 start to run out winners over Wingates from the same division 386.5 – 339.

Premier team Coburg A using two players from their B team also made use of their 62.5 start in beating Ladybridge A from the same division 405.5 – 331. Perhaps this is one advantage of the new handicap system based on player positions rather than team positions in that you can import lower players without being seriously disadvantaged as in previous years.

North West Lions from Division One had a 60.5 start over Little Lever B from the same division but were unable to capitalise on it as Little Lever ran out winners 376 – 346.5.

Division One’s Heaton Cricket Club A had an 88.5 start but they too were unable to turn it to their advantage as Premier team Burning Desire overcame them  394 – 329.5.

Two teams had walkovers. Hilton D could not raise a team allowing Coburg B through and Hilton B likewise allowed Hilton E through to the next round.

In the bottom half of the draw, Division Three’s Polonia Club B made use of their  56.5 start in winning out against Division Two’s Brass Zone 401.5 – 354.

Meadow Ben C were virtually on scratch to Farnworth Social Circle D who were on 0.5 to prevent a draw. Meadow Ben C took it 336 – 313.5. Bolton Hindu Forum, in a mix-up, failed to show incurring a fine and handing the match to Hilton F.

Division three’s Hilton G had a 76.5 start but were not quite able to capitalise on it as Division Two’s Farnworth Social Circle C  stemmed the tide with a 369 – 334.5 victory.

Division Three’s Ladybridge C had a 39.5 start against Meadow Ben D from the same division. They obviously didn’t need it as they succeeded 375.5 -  310.

Junior team Hilton I had a 90.5 start. However, seasoned cup campaigners Hilton Hawks from Division Two made use of their experience stemming the tide and winning 364 – 339.5.

Albany from Division Three had a good 75.5 start but were unable to catch out Farnworth Social Circle B who ran out winners 370 – 347.5.

This week we have the Individual Championships to find the best player and runner up from each division, from those who entered, with cash prizes on offer.
