Bolton News 12th March

With Flixton Cricket Club A on an open week, Ramsbottom Town A take their place at the top of the table in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League. They played Little Lever Cricket Club A winning 25 – 8 with nine points from Michael Moir. This puts them 18 points ahead of Flixton in second place. Third-placed Ramsbottom Town B had a 19 – 14 win over Hilton A assisted by nine from Sandy Choong. In fourth place a two-man Flixton Cricket Club B just got pipped 16 – 15 by Wharton four places below with Anthony Bates putting up nine points resistance for Flixton. Mid-table Radcliffe Cricket Club had a 22 – 12 win over Nomads helped by nine from Kristof Pinter. In a clash of the bottom two teams, second-bottom Ladybridge A beat Hilton B 20 – 17.

Top team in Division Two, Burning Desire, continued their campaign to return to the Premier with a 24 – 5 beating of tenth-placed Heaton Cricket Club A with nines from Brett Haslam and Ben Armstrong. Second-placed Wigan TTC thrashed fifth-placed Polonia Club A 24 – 4  with nines from Daniel Watkinson and Paul Clark. Third-placed Ramsbottom Town D beat Hilton D 24 – 10 assisted by nine from Martin Holt and in fourth place Coburg thrashed Meadow Ben A by a full 27 points to 4. Mid-table Wingates beat Hilton C one place below them 21 – 14 despite a resisting nine from Andrew Morey.

In Division Two Saint Paul’s Peel take over top spot by two points from Hilton E as they beat them by a massive 25 – 8 with nines from Ray Isherwood and Lee Devenport. Five points behind, Polonia Club B had a good 25 – 9 win against bottom team Hilton F with nines from Marian Bleho and Vojtech Sanc. Fourth-placed Heaton Cricket Club B had a good 25 – 8 win against mid-table Brasszone with nines coming from Martin Hulton and Dave Jones. Fifth-placed Meadow Ben B just beat Hilton Top Spinners 20 – 17 helped by nine from Mike Heaton. After a very promising start in the early season, Bolton TTC slip to mid-table. They lost out 19 – 14 to Ladybridge B two places below them whose John Birchall bagged nine points. Second-bottom Walkden Methodists beat Farnworth Social Circle B above them 20 – 17 in spite of a resisting nine from Martyn Garnett.

Still looking unassailable at the top of Division Three, Farnworth Social Circle C met their own fifth-placed D team winning 21 – 12 helped by nine from Ben Wyatt. Second-placed Meadow Ben C beat tenth-placed Ladybridge C 25 – 12 assisted by nine from Ian Wheeldon while two points behind them in third place Meadow Ben A had a 25 – 13 win over fourth-placed Polonia Club C with nines from Roy Caswell and John Nuttall. Meadow Ben C and Meadow Hill A meet this week on Tuesday. Mid-table Meadow Ben D  beat bottom of the table Meadow Hill B 21 – 13 with nines from Alan Weall and Neil Cowburn. More mid-table action had Albany beating Hilton G 19 – 17 assisted by nine from David Barrow. Second-bottom Juniors Hilton I had no problem with a one-man Irlam Steel Social Club although Irlam’s David Yates gave no ground with nine points. Irlam are now having problems fulfilling fixtures with team members moving away as the team prepares to leave the league altogether.
