Bolton News 30 October

Last week most teams had a rest from the action in the Bolton & District Table Tennis League. It was the first round of the Warburton Cup and in order to get the numbers down to the last thirty-two, most teams had a bye with only three preliminary matches taking place.

The new handicap system was as much on trial as the teams themselves with handicaps now based on the average separation of the team’s players in the % averages as compared with a team’s opponent’s average.

Meadow Ben C from Division 3 made use of a 77.5 start to just overcome Division Two’s Heaton Cricket Club B. Heaton did a sterling job pulling back 67 of the points start, but in the end, were not quite able to manage it with Meadow Ben running out winners at 386.5 – 377. Two teams from Division Three played each other, Ladybridge C and Hilton H with no start involved. At the mid-point of the match, it looked pretty equal with Hilton H on 194 just four points ahead of Ladybridge. Over the next four sets, Ladybridge just had the edge running out winners 338.5 – 317. Brass Zone from Division Two had a 69.5 start and beat Hilton Top Spinners from the same division 377.5 – 345.

The next round will be played in the week commencing December 2nd.
