STERN EXAMINATION FOR LODGERS A!

Lodgers A were given a stern examination by neighbours Wrangle although the scoreline says otherwise. Four of the ten matches went the full distance and although Lodgers came out on top 8-2 on another night it could have been much closer. Derek Wood was the player of the match, winning two of his singles in straight ends but taken the distance by a determined Sam Cooper in the final singles of the night, Sam being 1-2 up before Derek came back to take the next two 11-9, 11-9. In fact, all of the Lodgers players had to endure a five set match, Graham Lacey lost a 2-0 lead to Pete Evans who came roaring back to take the next three ends 9-11, 5-11, 10-12. While Gary Hill also nearly endured the same fate as his team mate, Pete coming from 2 sets down to take the next two 7-11, 8-11 before just missing out 12-10 in the fifth. Sam Cooper got the other point for Wrangle with an excellent straight sets victory over Gary Hill. It was a tough night for Wrangle's Dave Coulson though who battled hard with little reward. The evening finished with an epic doubles match between Lacey/Hill and Evans/Cooper. The Lodger's duo started the better, taking the first two ends 11-7, 11-3 before Cooper/Evans took the next two 7-11, 8-11 to set up an exciting finale. However, the Lodger's duo gritted their teeth and pulled away to take the game 11-6 and a 8-2 victory on the night.
