Match Report

STICKNEY GET BETTER OF TWO MAN LODGERS!

With Lodgers C still without Steve Allen, it looked like it was going to be a tough evening when Stickney fielded a strong side of Adam Ellis, Gavin Herberts and Andy Birks. Scott Sykes put in a player of the match performance, winning all three of his singles albeit all going the full distance. In his first match against Adam Ellis Scott was 2-1 up and 10-8 up in the fourth before Adam won four points on the bounce to take it 10-12. However, Scott was not going to be denied and got off to a flyer in the fifth from which Adam didn't recover and Scott took it 11-1. In his second match against Gavin Herberts, it was Gav who got off to a flyer taking the first two ends 9-11, 8-11 but Scott came back strongly to take the next three 11-7, 11-6, 11-6. His final match was against former teammate Andy Birks and although Scott took the first end, Andy took the next two quite comfortably 7-11, 7-11 with his style of play causing Scott problems. Scott though regrouped to take the next two ends 11-8, 11-5 to take home his hattrick. Andy Pocklington worked hard for little reward being beaten in straight sets by Adam Ellis, losing in four to Andy Birks but was unlucky not to beat Gav Herberts with Andy playing some wonderful attacking shots and being stoic in defence but just came up short with Gav taking the decisive end 8-11. With the score now at 3-6 in favour of Stickney, Lodgers needed a win in the doubles to make the score a bit more respectable, which they duly did with the Sykes/Pocklington partnership just getting the better of Birks/Herberts in five ends to complete the night at 4-6 in favour of Stickney.
