Match Report

With No. 1 ranked Brett Heppenstall not available, Wrangle must have thought they had a chance of a few points but when the replacement is Brian Hill, maybe not so much! As it turned out, Brian was the player of the match and raced through his singles in straight sets and minimum fuss. Chris Christoforou played the wingman to perfection, also winning his three but had to work extremely hard for them. First up was Pete Evans - after three close ends, Chris was 1-2 up but Pete hit back to take the fourth 13-11 to take it to the decisive fifth, which Chris sneaked 11-13. In his second match against Sam Cooper, it was Chris who had to come from 2-1 down to take the next two ends 8-11, 8-11. In his final match against Dave Coulson, Chris came through in four close ends to complete his hattrick. Alan Ashberry's evening got off to a less than perfect start with Dave Coulson getting his best result of the season, Dave coming from 1-2 down to take the next two ends 14-12, 11-9 to get Wrangle a point on the board. Alan though made amends in his next two though, coming through in straight sets against Pete and Sam. In the doubles it was Cooper/Evans taking on the formidable pairing of Hill/Ashberry with the Lodgers duo coming through in straight sets to take the match 1-9.
