NOMADS STRUGGLES CONTINUE!
Graves Park Nomads tough start to the season continued as they were well beat by the strong visiting Mayflower team, with the visitors coming away with a 1-9 victory. Veteran Tony Hall was the player of the match, winning all of his singles and dropping just one end to another veteran of the league, Alan Davy. Chris Cooke did likewise, although he had to work that bit harder for his 3 points - dropping ends to Alan Davy and the debutant Russ Freeman. He was made to work even harder by the dogged Steve Sykes, who can consider himself unlucky, coming from 2 sets down to take the next two 11-7, 11-7 before running out of steam in the decider, losing 7-11. Wayne Grooby added another two points with wins over Alan Davy and Steve Sykes but he came unstuck against a resolute Russ Freeman, with the debutant winning in four to spare Nomads the whitewash. In the doubles, Sykes/Freeman took on the more experienced Cooke/Grooby and the Mayflower's duo experience told, with them winning in straight sets on their way to a 1-9 victory on the night.
