YOUNG GUNS DUKE IT OUT!
It was refreshing to see two young players in the league going hammer and tong against each other, and that's what happened when Mayflower took on Graves Park E. The two young players in question were Jamie Hill and Alex Allbones and although Alex won, Jamie put in a very promising performance. It looked like it was going to be a straight sets win for Alex, winning the first two ends 5-11, 3-11 but Jamie was determined to not go down without a fight, taking the third end 12-10 and he battled hard in the fourth too but Alex just pipped him 12-14. Jamie could also consider himself unlucky against the Park's Andrew Wheatcroft, just missing out in the fifth end 6-11. Although Jamie lost all his singles it was valuable experience and I am sure better results are round the corner. With the Park missing their influential captain Peter Bell, it was always going to be tough to get a result and with Chris Cooke and Wayne Grooby in top form that proved to be the case with both players registering their hattricks in straight sets. Chris and Wayne then teamed up in the doubles to put the icing on the cake, comfortably beating Alex and Rita in straight sets on the way to a 7-3 victory on the night.
