Match Report

"SMILER" THE MAN OF THE MOMENT!

Dave "Smiler" Smith was the player of the match when Sibsey visited Mayflower, with Sibsey taking home the spoils in a 1-9 victory on the night. "Smiler" was in inspired form, comfortably winning all three of his singles in straight ends and he was ably backed up by Neil Snaith, who also won in straight sets but Wayne Grooby could consider himself unlucky not to win one the two deuce games. Roger Hooton was also aiming for his hattrick but it was former team-mate Chris Cooke who spoiled the party, Chris winning in four ends to give Mayflower their solitary point. Youngster Jamie Hill battled hard but he found it difficult to get a foothold against these wily veterans and I am sure he will improve as the season progresses. In the doubles the Mayflower duo of Grooby/Cooke took the first end but Snaith/Smith had other ideas, taking the next three ends 9-11, 9-11, 9-11 to take home a 1-9 victory on the night.
