A NIGHT OF NETS & EDGES!
It was one of those nights where there were a lot of nets and edges but it didn't detract from a close battle between Graves Park D and Mayflower. No. 1 Ranked Paul Matschull continued his unbeaten run this season, taking all of his singles with minimum fuss apart from one deuce game against veteran Tony Hall. Mick Dodes played his wingman to perfection, adding two points with victories over young Jamie Hill and Tony Hall but came unstuck against the wily Chris Cooke. Dave Walters could only add the one point with a four set victory over Jamie Hill but could consider himself unlucky losing in five to the determined Tony Hall, Tony taking the fifth end 8-11. As is often the case the doubles was the game of the night with Dodes/Walters taking on Hall/Cooke and with the Mayflower duo putting a marker down in the first end, winning 3-11, it looked ominous for the Park duo! However, in the next end the Park duo almost matched the scoreline, taking it 11-4, so it was game on! With the next two close ends shared, it came down to the fifth - and it was the Mayflower pairing that came through strongly to take it 6-11 but it wasn't enough on the night with Graves Park D coming away with a 6-4 victory.
