NOMADS RECORD FIRST WIN!

Graves Park Nomads recorded their first official victory of the season with a hard and closely fought battle with Graves Park E. Steve Sykes was the player of the match, winning his first hattrick of the season, including a ding-dong battle against Pete Bell in the first match of the night. Steve started off strongly taking the first end 6-11 before being pegged back by his more experienced opponent in the next two 11-4, 11-6. In a tightly fought fourth end, Steve kept himself in the match, taking it 11-13 giving him the momentum he needed in the fifth to take it 7-11 and the win. He then took straight set victories over Rita Rowe and Andrew Wheatcroft to complete his hattrick and some confidence for future matches. Peter Bell put this setback aside, taking his next two singles with aplomb, with straight set victories over John Shortland and Erik Pitkevics. Erik added two more points for Nomads with a straight sets victory over Rita Rowe and a four set victory over Andrew Wheatcroft, and with John Shortland taking one hard-fought victory over the unlucky Andrew Wheatcroft, that was enough to give Nomads the victory on the night. Rita Rowe added a point that her efforts deserved, with a straight sets victory over John Shortland before Bell/Wheatcroft added a fourth with victory in the doubles over Sykes/Pitkovics but it wasn't enough to stop Nomads taking home a 6-4 victory on the night.
