Match Report

GROOBY ON TOP FORM!

Wayne Grooby of Mayflower was the player of the match against Graves Park E, with Wayne the only unbeaten player on the night. With straight set victories over Peter Bell and Rita Rowe, Wayne looked like he was cruising to a comfortable hattrick but Andrew Wheatcroft had other ideas - Andrew taking him all the way to a fifth set before running out of steam and losing the decider 6-11. Chris Cook added two points with straight sets victories over Rita Rowe and Andrew Wheatcroft but Peter Bell was too strong, with the Park player comfortably winning in straight sets. It was a tougher night for youngster Jamie Hill, losing all three, but he can take heart that he took ends off Rita Rowe and Andrew Wheatcroft. With the score at 4-5 in favour of Mayflower, the doubles took on extra significance with Graves Park having the chance of clinching a draw. However, the doubles partnership of Grooby/Cook were too strong for Bell/Wheatcroft, with the Mayflower duo winning in four to take the match 4-6.
