SMILER TAKES THE PLAUDITS!

Dave “Smiler” Smith was the star man for Sibsey against Mayflower winning his singles in straight sets, “Smiler” was ably backed up by Roger Hooton who also won his three dropping one end to the wily Tony Hall and one end against a battling Chris Cooke. It was Chris Cooke who saved Mayflower from the whitewash with their solitary victory over Mick “Five End” Ellis in four ends, “Five End” though did win his other two singles although he did lose the first end in his game against the impressive and ever improving Jamie Hill.

Dave “Smiler” Smith and Roger Hooton combined in the doubles against Tony Hall & Chris Cooke and it looked like an upset could be on the cards with the Mayflower pairing taking a 7 – 2 lead in the first end before the Sibsey pair regained some composure to steal the end 12 – 10, Sibsey won the second end fairly comfortably before having to battle back in the third end exactly as they had done in the first end winning 12 – 10 to clinch the doubles and give a score of 9 – 1.
