Bridgwater & District Table Tennis League 2018/19

Pre-Season Newsletter (Sept 2018)

Hi All

Firstly thank you for entering a team in the Bridgwater league for 2018/19 season.  We have 28 teams entered this year.  It was decided at the general meeting that followed the AGM to have 3 Divisions this season. With 9 teams in the Premier Division, 10 Teams in Division One and 9 in Division Two. All teams will play each other home and away.  In the Premier and Division One all individual games will be the best of 5.  Division two, all individual games will be the best of 3.

Enclosed with this newsletter are the present League Handbooks 2018/19 and score cards which should be enough to see you through the season, However if you need any more over the course of the season, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Roy Deakin for his hard work in producing the handbook.  I have emailed a copy of the League Rules Version 6/18 and a copy of the Constitution Version 5/15, but if anyone needs a hard copy, please contact me. Please make yourselves familiar with these and the one rule change, Rule 3: Transfer of players and playing up for another team of that same club.

Table Tennis England membership must be renewed at the start of the coming season and all cheques to be made out to Table Tennis England.    This can be renewed online, telephone, through the Bridgwater League or another local league. The fees are £16 for adults and £8 for juniors (under18).  The Table Tennis England telephone number for renewing your membership is 01908208898 or on line by going to Table Tennis England Website, clicking on membership, register or renew, Player membership, Register or renew on line, also for new players please assign to Bridgwater League.  Amy Cleaveley is dealing with Table Tennis England Memberships.  All players must be a Table Tennis England Member.

We Welcome 2 new clubs to the league Spaxton and Stoke St Gregory, also other new teams Syd “E”, Syd “F” and Ashcott Acorns, please make them feel welcome also any other new playing members.

We have our existing league website Bridgwater Table Tennis League run by Jim Stevenson   Also James Gillard is setting up a Bridgwater Table Tennis 365 Website  which is also up and running, this is the first year on this site so it is in its interim period.  All results must be sent to Jim as soon as the match is complete ideally you could copy James in at the same time, if not Jim will forward the results on to James, the easiest way with modern technology is to take a photo of the card and send it.  The hard copies must then be sent to Mark Duddridge 64 Taunton Road, Bridgwater, TA6 6AF for the records.

It was agreed at the AGM to keep the scoring system as it is at present – 10-0 win 10 points, 8-2 win 8 points, 4-6 lose 4 points, 1-9 lose 1 point, 5-5 draw 5 points and so on.

It was also agreed at the AGM to keep the postponement of fixtures rule the same as it is at present, and reads the postponing team must arrange a revised fixture date with their opponents, which must be played within 28 days of the original date.  Mark, Jim and James will monitor this & Malc will send an e-mail to team captains of the postponed match explaining that the committee expects this.

Also mentioned was the question of was it the responsibility of the home team to do all the scoring or should it be shared.  It was felt although the home team would take the initiative the away team would be expected to chip in and score some games and not leave all scoring to the home team.

If you require any further details regarding any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact me.  All that’s left is for me to wish you the best of luck for the coming season and let’s hope it will be as enjoyable as previous seasons and played in the True Spirit of Table Tennis.

All the best. Malc Sealey (League Secretary)  01278 424401
