BRIDGWATER & DISTRICT TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE
CHRISTMAS 2018/19 NEWSLETTER
I trust that you all had a good Christmas and would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.
As the season has reached the Christmas break, everything seems to be going well with no outstanding matches as all outstanding matches were played the first week of the Christmas break which is what the committee was expecting which is fantastic, thank you to all teams for making sure all fixtures are up to date. For up to date league tables, averages and any other news please see the league website; www.tabletennis365.com/Bridgwater. Thank you to James for getting this new Website up and running and also a big thank you to Jim for running the Bridgwater League Website for many years. BJTTC All Stars are heading the Premier Division followed by Ashcott Aces and Stockland Tigers. Sydenham “B” are heading Division one followed by Sydenham “E” and Paddle Swingers. In the Development / Division two Cheddar are leading the way followed by Huntspill “D” and Spaxton All Sorts, but there is still a long way to go.
Enclosed with this newsletter is the Handicap Draw, the Ready Reckoner and Individual Handicaps. Any player not shown on the list needing a handicap should contact Mark Duddridge, giving 3 days’ notice. The Handicap group stage will be played during 25th February through to the end of March. Because each group consists of 5 and 6 teams, it doesn’t leave any spare weeks therefor the committee would ask that all games are played during the scheduled week, if not the game may be awarded to the non-postponed team and every Handicap match must be completed by Friday 29th March. Can I remind teams that the top two teams from each group will go through to the quarter final knockout stage.
Postponement of Fixtures. From time to time fixtures get postponed. Can all team captains make sure they make themselves familiar with this rule, Page 7 of the 2018/19 Handbook. If a fixture is needed to be postponed, then Mark (Fixture Secretary) must be contacted, giving the reason for the request. The postponing team must arrange a revised Fixture Date with their opponents, which is expected to be played within 28 days of the original date.
Courtesy and Respect to our fellow players. It has been brought to my notice that on odd occasions situations may arise which are not in line with the spirit of the lovely game of table tennis. I know we all like to win, but disrespectful remarks to an opponent or not shaking hands at the end of a game is not acceptable. The Bridgwater League has always been known as a friendly league. These situation are very isolated, but the Committee will stamp out anything which is not in line with the true spirit of the game of table tennis. I would like to thank the large majority of players for their good sportsmanship, playing competitive but within the spirit of the game of table tennis.
Registration of new players after Christmas. Can I remind teams that Registration of new players after Christmas will be e-mailed to committee members and that teams could be told this could take a few days before an answer is given. If a player plays without permission being given then the games which that player has won, maybe taken away.
PROMOTION AND RELEGATION
The winners and runners-up in each division, other than the premier shall normally be promoted and the bottom two team of each division other than the lowest shall normally be relegated.
The Committee shall have the power to promote or relegate teams as it seems fit to maintain the balance of the divisions. Placement of new teams in the league shall be at the Committee’s discretion.
I have been selected on the Table Tennis England pride of table tennis award national panel 2019 and will be in Milton Keynes on January 8th
Thank you all again for participating in the Bridgwater and District table tennis league. Hope you all continue to enjoy a good season. Please contact me if you have any queries.
