Cardiff City TTC secured promotion to the British Premier League as they hammered BATTS 8-0. A dominant performance saw Cardiff hit full pelt as they battled past a valiant BATTS side that had no answer to their opponents. A blitz of straight end wins saw Cardiff race into a 3-0 lead, with Yongbo Zhang Wiktor Dzwonowski and Simon Noutch defeating Jimmy Walsh, Jack Bennett and Ethan Walsh respectively.
Not to be disheartened, youngster Jordan Wykes looked set to give his side hope as he went 2-0 ahead against Paddy Thomas. But this was Cardiff's day. Thomas roared back to take it to a decider, which he comfortably won 11-1. Another win for Zhang and a five ends win for Noutch over Jimmy Walsh added emphasis to the scoreline before Dzwonowski and Thomas defeated Wykes and Ethan Walsh respectively to end a perfect day for Cardiff, who can now only be mathematically overtaken by one any one side, meaning they have earnt promotion.
Cardiff could be joined by York Gardens in the Premier after York defeated Rotherham Scorpions in a tense 5-3 victory. Richard Carden was the star as he clawed his way to victory over Richard Smith in the final set of the day, winning the fifth 15-13 to secure the win for York. York looked on course for a comfortable victory when Brian Li, Matthew Man and Daniel McTiernan gave them a 3-0 lead. But Rotherham, and Stephen Horsfield in particular, had other ideas. Horsfield staged a comeback for his side as he superbly defeated Carden and Matthew Man in the fifth.
Horsfield's wins sandwiched another victory for York's Li over Ben Barlow, but when Mark Short defeated McTiernan, Rotherham were a set away from an unlikely point.
It was down to Carden, who held his nerve to save several match points and secure a precious win for York, who now effectively have a promotion match with BATTS tomorrow morning, albeit York's position means they can afford a draw.
